My teaching philosophy is centered around the following:
First, the central objective of employing student-centered learning depends on the two sub-topics mentioned afterward: creating a safe learning environment and teaching enthusiastically. As an educator, it is vital for me to ensure that the culture of my classroom environment is engaging, enjoyable, and exciting to reallocate the emphasis of education from myself to the student. To accomplish this shift, I have to be passionate about what I am teaching. If I can display desire through the subjects I teach, it will encourage my students to be passionate about their learning. Along with being passionate, I must be intentional in my pedagogies. Being intentional is getting to know students, showing that I care about them, and exhibiting transparency. Transparency will build the trust and rapport necessary for a student-focused learning environment. All in all, intentionality allocates the focus to the student, which is crucial to their learning. A student-centered learning environment is about modifying students’ learning so that they can be independent, critical thinkers, with my aid as a facilitator.
Next, students need to know that their creative thoughts, ideas, and customs of understanding concepts are encouraged and welcomed in the classroom. I plan to ensure that all of my students’ ideas are embraced by putting them in groups occasionally so they can share their ways of comprehending each topic. This is important because every student learns differently. Some students are visual learners, while others are verbal or kinesthetic learners. If these different types of students can come together and allocate their viewpoints, they should be able to determine successful learning and studying techniques. Another way that all kinds of learners can be reached is by allowing some students to go in the front of the classroom and demonstrate how to work out problems on the board/computer if applicable. With this teaching method, students can take control of their educational outcomes.
Lastly, I want my students to clearly understand what they are learning and why it is imperative. This requires me to teach good, quality content in an informationally and scientifically literate way. For a student to effectively comprehend and imbed information, it must be taught from a relatable and engaging perspective. I plan to be appealing and distinctive through my examples and instruction to produce this outcome. My goal with this way of teaching is to encourage students to want to learn outside of the classroom. I want to teach information in a way that helps my students dig deeper and think critically in my class and all of their classes.
Nevertheless, there is no perfect teaching philosophy; however, the originality of the professor is crucial. I am choosing a career in academia because I want to aid the next generation of learners and future professionals in an unforgettable way. I want to be a professor who is revolutionary in my pedagogical methods.
